What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I love seeing the children's faces light up when they understand a topic they didn't get. It's awesome seeing them finally click with something they've been struggling with for a long time, and it really makes my day when, at the end of the session, they leave with a smile.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I'm very good at explaining things in a way that relates to the child so they can better understand it. I'm also extremely patient which is essential for tutoring as it gives the child time to find the answer instead of feeling rushed or pressured.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to explain it so they understand what you're saying, and then give them time to figure it out on their own with out being given the answer, and without time constraints. I also think that making them feel comfortable to ask for help is very important, because if they don't ask questions, a person cannot learn very well.

Volume of rectangular prisms - could do this reasonably well. Converting between volume units (ml, L, kL, ML) - usually did this well. Understanding 1ml is equal to 1 gram and 1 cm^3 - seemed to understand this well. Converting between cm^3 and volume units - could do to ml easily.

Needs Improvement

Volume of rectangular prisms - sometimes added to find area instead of multiplying, sometimes used her own numbers instead of the ones shown. Converting between volume units (ml, L, kL, ML) - had some trouble with the number of zeros and moving the decimal place the right way. Converting between cm^3 and volume units - units that were not ml were a bit difficult as outlined above.

Area of squares, rectangles and triangles - could do this very well except for large numbers in her head bu she has access to a calculator in tests. Perimeter of rectangles, squares and unique shapes with all corners being 90 degrees - did very well towards the end of the lesson. Unit conversion - understood it more towards the end of the lesson.

Needs Improvement

Area of squares, rectangles and triangles - sometimes forgot to divide the triangle area by 2 to get the triangle. Perimeter of rectangles, squares and unique shapes with all corners being 90 degrees - occasionally counted corners or sides instead of line length. Unit conversion - occasionally moved the decimal place the wrong way or the wrong number of times.

Area of triangles - after a couple hiccups of forgetting all of our units she did well. Approximating area of funny shapes using triangles - once i helped her break down the shapes into triangles she was good. Understanding why the area of a triangle formula is what it is - she understood this.

Needs Improvement

Approximating area of funny shapes using triangles - has trouble finding the triangles (and other shapes) in tricky shapes.
