I believe it depends highly on the students understanding and their level of education. However in saying this, the ability to create interest and enjoyment in a subject is the most important. As from my own experience enjoying a subject and being interested in the topic helps greatly in motivating a person to understand and achieve well in it. I…

This means explaining concepts clearly, adapting to their learning style, and creating a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. Not only providing valuable insights into learning techniques and skillsets constructed from personal experience, but also giving students the necessary ingredients for building their own toolset with guidance and advice. I personally love approaching different tasks in different ways that…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is relate to them. Everyone is different and learns in a different way. Hence, you must adjust your method of teaching for each individual student. Some people are auditory, visual or written learners, some like algebra, calculus, or trigonometry. Moreover, if you are understanding of your…

I believe be able to help students in study is one important thing. However helping them emotionally and in life could be essential for them. As they might have had a bad day at school or didn’t get good marks in exams. There’s few things I believe that’s more important than study. I believe I can help kids understanding a concept during…

A tutor can increase a student's confidence in their abilities through consolidation of concepts. This is important as to do well in any subject, a student needs to believe in themselves and their capabilities. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help them believe in themselves. Academic support is important, but confidence is what truly changes everything. When a student feels seen, heard, and supported, they start to trust their own ability to learn and grow. A great tutor doesn’t just explain concepts they create a safe space…

The most important thing of a tutor in my opinion is to foster genuine passion for learning for the students. Passion to help students, I…

Being able to formulate different approaches on the go is something a tutor should be able to do in order for the students to understand at their own pace. A tutor should also be patient in order to make the student feel welcomed whenever they are in a predicament academically. Other than that, a tutor should be friendly so the students feel…

Inside MelbourneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Jason reviewed key concepts in Trigonometry, including complementary angles, and practiced differentiation using first principles to prepare for a Math Methods test.

Year 12 student worked through complex numbers in polar form (cis(theta)) and tackled textbook exercises, also revising inverse trigonometric functions ahead of an upcoming Specialist Mathematics assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student covered the basics of linear equations—solving for one variable and graphing lines—and explored atomic structure in Chemistry, focusing on subatomic particles and electron shells.

Recent Challenges

Homework was not completed in a recent Year 11 session, which left gaps in understanding and slowed progress with new calculus problems—"please do the HW:), as it'll really strengthen your understanding," noted the tutor.

In another Year 12 lesson, revision focused mainly on familiar question types; less time was spent on more challenging trigonometric proofs and complex numbers, limiting exposure to higher-level exam material.

For a Year 4 student tackling long division, feeling stressed when unable to solve problems instantly led to hesitation in practice. In these moments, avoidance or incomplete work delayed deeper confidence and fluency.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Melbourne recently noticed Jason, a Year 11 student, moving from hesitancy to actively asking thoughtful questions while tackling challenging Trigonometry problems—a big step up from his earlier quietness.

In another high school session, Thomas started out unsure with negative numbers but now solves linear equations more confidently after connecting operations across Math and Chemistry.

Meanwhile, a younger student, Charlie, who used to get stuck on addition and subtraction, can now work through most sums without help.

Last week, Jonas—previously distracted—chose mental maths strategies himself and completed all division tasks unaided.
